RUMNEY — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Lester Coffin on Oct. 12, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on Feb. 13, 1937, in the town of Rumney, Charlie, as he was lovingly known, lived a life filled with adventure and love.
Charlie was the son of Lester Coffin and Mildred Morrell. Though he was predeceased by his parents and siblings Robert, John, Mildred, Marie, Jeanette and Nancy, his legacy continues through the lives he touched. He leaves behind his devoted partner, Leona Dickerson, and siblings Mary and Richard.
Charlie loved his children unconditionally and was a wonderful father to Daniel (Delia) Coffin, Laurie (Rick) Coffin, Cheryl King and David Coffin. He adored his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They will all carry his legacy forward.
Charlie was a self-made man, whose minimal formal education did not hinder him from reaching great heights. With a natural gift for ingenuity, he founded a successful construction company for over 40 years. His perfectionism was legendary, always working tirelessly to ensure every project was flawless. He had the gift of ingenuity that he passed on to all his kids, in different forms. He had the ability to look at anything and figure out how to fix it, invent something better or build something better. It is a lasting legacy that has made a huge difference in our lives.
A man of many passions, Charlie was a car enthusiast, known for cruising in his cherished 1957 Crown Victoria, often seen at car shows or touring New Hampshire, with his buddies Richard, Harley and Larry. His love for the outdoors was evident in his pursuits as a hunter and fisherman. Winters saw him ice fishing in his bob house, a testament to his enduring love of fish.
Charlie’s warmth was infectious; he always wore a smile and was happiest when making his grandchildren laugh. They were not just his family but his best friends, and he was their adored “Grampa.” His affection extended to animals, particularly his children’s dogs, who greeted him with joyful enthusiasm.
Charlie’s presence was a constant source of joy and support at family gatherings, be it a barbecue, a birthday, or holiday celebrations. His involvement in projects and outdoor activities like snowmobiling and hiking left an indelible mark on his family’s lives.
Charlie Coffin’s life was a testament to love, laughter and legacy. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered with smiles and stories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit remains with us, guiding and inspiring, as we carry on his tradition of love and laughter.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
