ALEXANDRIA — Beverly Mae Conway passed away at her home in Alexandria, on Aug. 5. She was born on Oct. 10, 1937, to Richard and M. Beatrice (Gaudet) Driscoll in Medford, Massachusetts.
Bev graduated from Girls Catholic High in Malden, Massachusetts, and Boston College, class of 1959.
After graduation she taught elementary school in Medford, Massachusetts, married Thomas J. Conway and moved to Dover. She was a stay-at-home mother for several years, before returning to teaching. Bev taught first grade at Garrison School in Dover for 25 years. She was a strong union advocate, not only for teachers, but her advocacy included firefighters, teamsters and other labor groups. Beverly was president of the Dover Teachers’ Union, president of NH Federation of Teachers and vice president of NH AFL-CIO.
Bev attended Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Dover and Holy Trinity Parish in Bristol.
Following in their mother’s footsteps, Tom and Bev raised their three daughters to be fiercely independent, strong willed and advocates for others.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Thomas J. Conway, now residing at Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Laconia; daughters, Tami Greig (Henry) of Stamford Connecticut, Annora M. Conway of Alexandria and Deirdre B. Conway (Dale Robie) of Alexandria; grandchildren, Cameron and Olivia Greig, and Brendan and Bridget Henss. Bev also leaves behind many dear friends from the Dover and Seacoast area. Her beloved cats, Tucker, Tuukka Rask and Ripper, will miss her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Mark Dollard, Monday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Chapel of Holy Trinity Parish, 2 West Shore Road, Bristol, followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery in Alexandria.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Saint Anthony Shrine (Bread For The Poor) 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110.
