BELMONT — Barbara "Barb" Louise (née Wilson) Wood, born on March 15, 1944, in Methuen, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Belmont. She was 82 years old.

She was schooled at Tenney Grammar and Methuen High School.

Barbara began her career as a bank teller in Methuen, before advancing to a position at GCA Corporation as a trade show organizer. Her work took her to destinations such as California, Switzerland and Japan. Later in life, she retired to focus on her growing family and embraced the lifestyle of a snowbird, spending winters in Wildwood, Florida, and summers at Winnisquam Beach Resort. Summers were filled with cherished family outings and weekends enjoying the lake.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Wood, of Belmont, whom she would be married to for 64 years on May 18; her daughter Cheryl Auger and son-in-law Shawn of Nashua; her sons, Christopher Wood of Belmont, and Patrick Wood and his wife Nicolle of Hudson; and her sister, Christine Markey and husband James of Kensington.

She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Samantha Dumais (Kevin) of Lowell, Massachusetts, Thomas Jensen (Emily) of Londonderry, Trevor Wood (Ruth) of Billings, Montana, Shayna Wood of Billings, Montana, Cody Wood and Carter Wood of Hudson. Her legacy continues through her seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Norman, Makenna Norman, Connor Dumais and Jackson Dumais, all of Lowell, Massachusetts, Tommy Jensen and Mac Jensen of Londonderry, and Jerisha Wood of Billings, Montana. She is survived by a very special aunt, Helen Laurin, and many cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Louise Wilson.

Barbara found joy in traveling with her husband and friends. She had a special bond with her bulldog Molly and enjoyed walking along the railroad tracks at the lake. A talented artist, she created beautiful watercolor paintings and crocheted blankets for family and friends while also donating some to local nursing facilities.

Every August brought treasured family trips to Old Orchard Beach — a tradition that brought everyone together.

There will be no calling hours.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara’s name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 320 Nevada St., Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460, or online at alz.org.

Barbara's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her life be celebrated for the love she shared and the joy she brought to others.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support we received from Granite VNA and especially would like to thank Cheryl Estes for the exceptional care she brought each day and her treasured friendship.
