Kay Potfora, 88 years young, performed with her father John Monty and uncle Leon Valier at the Lakeport Opera House in 1933, when she was 5 years old. She played the piano, drums and tap-danced for the audience, who included many veterans, brought in with wheel chairs and hospital beds. She looked like Shirley Temple, and the audience absolutely loved her. Their performances went on for weeks and were sold out every night.
After several attempts throughout the last 80 years to revisit the Lakeport Opera House, Kay walked through the front doors on Sept. 3rd. Overwhelmed with emotion and joy by the incredible restoration and transformation, Kay held hands with Opera House Director Tim James Everett, and took the stage once more.
The Rat Pack act dedicated a song, gave a heartfelt speech and a beautiful toast to Kay which ended in a standing ovation, in addition to their show.
At the end of the performance, audience members came to take Kay’s picture, hug her and thank her for sharing her memory.
