After a very successful opening weekend of the Winni Playhouse Youth Ensemble production of "Charlotte’s Web", the Playhouse turns its attentions to registrations for their winter youth and teen classes. Parents are encouraged to register early as there is a discount for all applications received by December 15.
Beginning January 18, the Playhouse will be starting a second session of the Winni Playhouse Glee Club. Much like the kids who perform on the hit t.v. show “Glee” (but without all the backstage drama!), the Winni Playhouse Glee Clubs allow kids the opportunity to learn some great songs both from the Broadway stage and popular music. This is a class for kids who love musical theatre or for those who just love to sing in front of their bedroom mirror. The workshops also include some basic choreography, all of which the kids get to perform for friends and family at the end of the session. There is a Teen Glee Club (ages 12-18) which will meet Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.. Youth Glee Club (ages 7-11) meets Mondays from 5:15-6:15 p.m.. Both Glee Clubs are run by local music teacher Chris Melanson.
Also beginning January 18th is an introductory acting class for kids ages 7-12 called “Quite a Character!” Taught by Kate Wisnioski, this class will be a chance to learn basic acting techniques while focusing on creating a unique character using voice, movement and costumes. All classes include theatre warm-ups and games and the semester will end with a short performance for family and friends at the last class to introduce these “characters” to the world! “Quite a Character” will be held Mondays from 4-5 p.m.
All three workshops will run for a 10-week session (no classes during February break). The two-hour Teen Glee costs $175 ($160 for sign ups before December 15) for the session while Youth Glee and “Quite a Character” cost $90 ($80 for sign ups before December 15) each per session. There is a further discount for kids taking both Youth Glee and “Quite a Character”. To register, call the Playhouse at 366-7377 or download an application from the classes page of the Playhouse’s website, www.winniplayhouse.com.
There are still three more chances to see 27 local kids perform the E.B. White classic, "Charlotte’s Web". Final performances are this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Early reservations are recommended. Call 366-7377 for tickets.
