The Rev. Andrew J. Matthews will be installed Sunday morning, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service, as senior pastor of the historic Evangelical Baptist Church in Veterans Square.
The special guest speaker will be Dr. Gary Yates, a professor of Old Testament at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va. where Rev. Matthews has been an adjunct professor of Greek, Homiletics and Pastoral Theology, and is currently nearing the end of studies for his doctorate. Dr. Yates is an old friend of the pastor’s and his wife Sue. The public is cordially invited to attend this special service.
A native of Bangor, Maine, Rev. Matthews holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada where he attended school and held several pastorates in New Brunswick. A graduate of New Brunswick Bible Institute in Victoria. he holds a Bachelor of Theology degree from Bethany Divinity College, Dotham, Alabama; a Masters of Arts in Religion and a Masters of Divinity from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and has two courses remaining for his doctorate.
Meanwhile, the Matthews, who were warmly and enthusiastically welcomed last month by the church congregation, are looking forward to life in the Lakes Region, not only because of the friendliness of the residents, but for exploring their pursuits of hiking and other outdoor activities. He also enjoys volleyball, having been a high school coach for eight years.
The couple are the parents of two adult daughters.
