One way to spend the long, Memorial Day weekend is to go to the Margate on Winnipesaukee on Saturday, May 29, for a Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament. This event will be held at the smoke-free resort to benefit the Belknap Mill Society, a nonprofit arts and history organization in Laconia. Cash prizes will be offered.
Registration and a buffet will be held from noon to 2 p.m., at which time play will begin.
The cost to compete in the tournament is $100 if registered in advance, and $125 if registered on the day of the tournament. Cost for the buffet is $5.
A First Place cash prize of $2,500 is being offered, based on 105 players, or 25 percent of the registration fee, if less than 105 players. There will be cash prizes for 2nd to 6th place.
Players will start with $3,000 in chips, and there will be no limit on betting. Players may buy additional $1,500 in chips for $50, up to the start of the second round.
The Margate on Winnipesaukee is located on Route 3 at 76 Lake Street in Laconia between downtown Laconia and the Weirs. Directions to the Margate can be provided by contacting the Belknap Mill Society.
