NEW HAMPTON — The New Hampton Historical Society will present a program on New Hampshire's railroad history on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Gordon-Nash Library.

Guest speaker Tink Taylor of Holderness will describe his early years traveling the rails and his involvement with the ongoing effort to bring back rail service back to the Granite State. In the 1980's, he was a contractor for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation's public affairs office, helping to keep the railroad from being zeroed out of the federal budget. He has written about railroads for the Journal of Commerce and Engineering News and for years attended and reported on the Transportation Research Board's Washington conference rail section. In 2007, he was appointed to the New Hampshire Rail Transit Authority, charged with the still ongoing project of bringing back commuter rail service to New Hampshire. Historicak society member Volker Antoni will be displaying his collection of photos of New Hampton's own railroad history, including framed photos of Winona Station, and following the program he will donate the photos and accompanying historical background material to the society's curator, Carole Curry.
