MOULTONBOROUGH — On Sept. 25, The Friends of the Moultonborough Public Library honored Paul Smith with the 20th annual Mary Rice Award during the Book and Author Luncheon held at the Bald Peak Colony Club. This award, originally given out as “The Outstanding Volunteer Award” was renamed for the first volunteer to be honored in 1998, Mary Rice. This award is given out annually to an individual who personifies outstanding voluntary service to the Friends of the Library, the staff and the Moultonborough Public Library itself.
Paul Smith, this year’s recipient, has been a supporter of the library for over 23 years. He was an alternate for the board of trustees for one year before running for trustee and winning two consecutive terms. He served as vice chairman of the trustees for two years. Smith has done everything to support the Friends. He has served as chairman of parking for the House Tour, lugged numerous books for July book sales, and attended countless Friends-sponsored events.
