Opechee Garden Club meets Monday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at Gilford Community Church, Potter Hill Road, Gilford. Guest speaker, Heidi Herzberger, artist, educator and master herbalist of Gilmanton, will speak on planting herbs in containers and how to use herbs.
Herzberger was the herbalist and landscape curator at Canterbury Shaker Village for 14 years. She has also worked with Habitat in Belmont, Mass.; helped to establish the Wildflower Trails at Washington Crossing State Park in Pennsylvania; the Science Center in neighboring Titusville, N.J., and the Medicine Woods Trails at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner. Over the last 20 years, she has designed herb gardens, lectured and led workshops on the many uses of herbs. Herzberger has developed and markets her "Heidi's Plant Pep," a one-of-a-kind organic plant fertilizer for every plant, made from plants for plants through composting.
Doreen Worthley, chair of the Opechee Garden Club Summer Garden Tour, is meeting with committee members and planning the July 14 tour and luncheon, wine tasting and boutique sale at the new Stone Gate Vineyard in Gilford.
Pat Pegg and Gayle Green are regular volunteers at LRGH arranging and delivering bud vases of fresh flowers to new patients.
Members are reminded to pre-pay $10 for reservations for the June luncheon catered by Curt's Caterers. This annual meeting includes the plant sale and Parade of the "Garden Garb". New membership is always welcomed. Call 293-6273 for more information.
