CONCORD — The New Hampshire Lakes Association recently appointed Kelly Buchanan as Advocacy Program Coordinator. She will help New Hampshire Lakes President Tom O’Brien represent the organization’s mission and its membership to the New Hampshire Legislature. In addition, Kelly will expand New Hampshire Lakes’ efforts to assist lake associations, conservation commissions, and municipalities with the development of effective lake conservation policies and ordinances.
“The hiring of an advocacy program coordinator was made possible by a successful campaign for growth that we conducted over the last year,” said O'Brien. “Our members and partners told us that they want us to do more to advocate for our lakes, statewide and locally. I am thrilled to have Kelly on board and confident that she will be a highly effective advocate for lakes and a great asset to our New Hampshire Lakes team.”
Buchanan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a minor in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is not new to New Hampshire Lakes. As a research assistant with the organization during the summer of 2017, she helped develop a feasibility study focusing on options for preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species into New Hampshire’s lakes with the aid of boat cleaning and wash stations. In addition to her work with NH LAKES, Kelly has worked for The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire and Colorado, and for Environment New Hampshire.
