Take Scandinavian and Austrian immigrants, the Dartmouth Outing Club, the Cannon Mountain Tramway, the muscular Christian, and amateur tinkers. Then, cover it with snow and shake and you have the makings of a unique New Hampshire history. The Laconia Historical & Museum Society invites the public to join professor emeritus of history at Plymouth State University John Allen for a fascinating look at the history of skiing in the Granite State on Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Laconia Public Library.

Allen is author of "New Hampshire on Skis (2002), From Skisport to Skiing: One Hundred Years of an American Sport, 1840-1940" (1993) and "The Culture of Sport and Skiing: From Antiquity to World War II" (2007).

This presentation coinsides with Laconia Historical’s new exhibit "Got Skis", co-curated by Laconia High School seniors Brittany Legassie and Azra Karabegovic. "Got Skis" is on view at the Laconia Public Library through April 30th.
