As a celebration of Mozart's 250th anniversary of his birth the Belknap Mill will host a concert, "Sunday in the Mill with Mozart," on Sunday, Sept. 17. Guests will be treated to a Viennese style coffee house desserts at 2:30 p.m. in the Rose Chertok concert hall. The concert will begin at 3 p.m.

The concert will feature the flute and harp duo "2," from Boston, with Peter H. Bloom (flute) and Mary Jane Rupert (harp).

The program will feature two of the beloved composer’s greatest masterpieces: the dazzling Concerto in C Major (K.299) for flute and harp and the sublime “Turkish” Concerto in A Major (K. 219), originally written for violin and performed in the September 17 concert in a magnificent but seldom-heard transcription for flute. The duo will also perform selections from Don Giovanni and other Mozart operas.

Hailed for “music that can set the heart singing” (Better Homes & Gardens), Bloom and Rupert have performed together for more than 15 years, appearing in venues across the United States, with 2 CDs on the North Star label.

"With the warm and intimate setting of the historic mill, audience members will have a rare opportunity to experience this classical concert vividly and up close. No notes, nuances or gestures will be lost. The concert will be performed as Mozart originally intended," said Mill Executive Director Mary Boswell.

Guests will be treated to authentic Australian cakes, other desserts and iced coffee as it is served in a Viennese coffee house, with ice cream and whipped cream. For those watching their waistlines, other coffees will also be served.

The Historic Belknap Mill is located at 25 Beacon St. East, in downtown Laconia, sharing the same parking lot as city hall.

Tickets are available at Greenlaws Music Store, the Sundial Shop in Gilford and Laconia and the Historic Belknap Mill. For reservations, call 524-8813.
