An 11th birthday celebration last month for Gilford twins Shannon and Carter Mercer turned into a bonanza for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lakes Region. The twins made it known to their friends that birthday gifts they received would be donated to the club and the response was overwhelming. Over $250 in gift cards and checks were donated, along with games, clothes, snacks, pens, calculators and more. Later, the Mercer twins dropped by the club with their mother, Debby, and younger brother Sam to deliver the donations. Bag after bag was brought into the club and officials and club members became more overwhelmed with each on of them. The Mercers were introduced to members of the club and were given a tour. "The best gift in this story is seeing two young teenagers thinking of others on their special day," said Club board member Barbara Leone.
