Learn about Laconia’s historic trolleys on Aug. 19 downtown

LACONIA — Philip Morse and Donald Curry of the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine, and the National Streetcar Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts, will present a discussion of Laconia-built streetcars and ongoing trolley renovation activities. This event will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, in Rotary Hall on the lower level of the Laconia Public Library, under the auspices of the Laconia Historical and Museum Society. The program is also being offered as part of the day long Celebrate Laconia recognition of the 125th anniversary opening of the Laconia Passenger Station.

Morse is an owner/operator of both museums and Curry serves as an acknowledged resident expert in the field. This presentation will include updates on the seven Laconia trolleys in their collection, an overview of this important history, and a review of the significant Narcissus Restoration Project taking place to preserve our streetcar legacy. The speakers will also be available to answer questions and encourage railroad enthusiasm.

The program is free and open to the public. For further information, contact LHMS at 527-1278, lhmslpl@metrocast.net or go to www.laconiahistory.org.
