LACONIA — The Lakes Region Tourism Association awarded the Mildred A. Beech Scholarship and Mel Borrin Scholarship at their Annual Meeting held October 2 at The NASWA Resort's Blue Bistro.

The Mel Borrin Scholarship was awarded to James McManus, a junior at Plymouth State University, whose major is Tourism Management & Policy. The Mel Borrin Scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown enthusiasm and entrepreneurial skills and is self-motivated to succeed.

The Lakes Region Tourism Association awards the Mildred A. Beech Scholarship to a student attending a college, university or technical college in the Lakes Region to pursue a degree in tourism, hospitality and/or culinary arts. This year's scholarship went to Kaitlyn Mercier, who is attending Lakes Region Community College with a triple major in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, and Restaurant Management.

The Lakes Region Tourism Association is the official tourism board of the region, representing close to 100 communities, 273 lakes and ponds, and more than 400 businesses in central New Hampshire, including area attractions, restaurants, retail establishments and accommodations.
