The Laconia Historical and Museum Society and Gilford’s Thompson-Ames Historical Society are hosting an annual joint potluck at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. Following dinner at 7 p.m. Dr. Thaddeus Piotrowski, professor of Sociology at the University of New Hampshire, will speak on the subject of his recent book The Indian Heritage of New Hampshire and Northern New England, with a specific emphasis on the Native American history of the Lake Winnipesaukee region.

Piotrowski will touch on both the prehistory and the period of European contact of the region’s native peoples, and how the Native American presence and history has affected our modern lives today through such things as place names and traditions. Dr. Piotrowski will be available for a book signing after the program.

Everyone who attends is invited to bring a favorite dish for all to enjoy! Both the potluck at 6 p.m. and program at 7 p.m. will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Gilford Community Church, at 19 Potter Hill Rd. in Gilford Village. Please note the location for this gathering. Program is free and open to the public.
