J. Jill in Tilton encourages caring for the community among its associates, with a focus on giving and volunteerism in the Lakes Region, and has made this a solid principal of its culture. This commitment fits naturally with the mission and vision of the Lakes Region United Way (LRUW), and is J. Jill’s response to the United Way’s call to action: Give, Advocate, Volunteer - Live United.

J. Jill recently celebrated its annual campaign contributions to the LRUW, which totaled over $7,000 this year, an 11-percent increase over 2009.

In addition to raising funds for the community, J. Jill also encourages volunteerism by allowing each associate the opportunity to participate in a full day of volunteer activities that serve the needs of the community and also support the personal interests of their associates. A J. Jill Volunteer Committee organizes group volunteer events for their associates throughout the year. Since the inception of the program in 2003, 766 associates have utilized their volunteer day benefit and worked a total of 6,128 volunteer hours, with many of those hours worked at LRUW events like the annual Day of Caring in September.

During J. Jill's recent Volunteer Awareness Day a 50/50 raffle was held to benefit the charity of the winner’s choice. The raffle was won by Penny Hueber, and in another example of community commitment from J. Jill’s associates, she chose the Lakes Region United Way to receive the proceeds.
