Hodecker Gallery announces reopening in Meredith

MEREDITH — Artist Stephen Hodecker, brother of the late Christine Hodecker-George, along with friends and family, is pleased to announce the reopening of Christine’s art gallery at 3 Water St., Meredith. A large body of Christine’s works in oils, watercolor, and pastel, including many new works, is on view and available there. Even during her final days, Christine continued to paint, never putting down the brush.

The gallery, located just steps away from Main Street, is now open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and by appointment by calling 603-244-8085.

Born in 1953 and a 1971 graduate of Inter-Lakes High School, who pursued further study at Plymouth State College, Christine was largely self-taught as an artist, developing her own style. She pursued her career as an artist much the same way she faced life: head on. Almost always she could be found in her gallery, working intently on her latest painting or eagerly sharing her talent by teaching others. Her passion for art was matched only by a fierce commitment to family, friends, and community. She was selflessly dedicated to others and actively gave her time to local causes and organizations such as the Greater Meredith Program, the Meredith Rotary Club, the Got Lunch Program, and the New Hampshire Humane Society. Her life was cut short after a courageous and determined battle with cancer in June. She will be missed, but her spirit will carry on in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew her.

Stephen Hodecker has been a working artist in the community for over 40 years. He studied at the University of New Hampshire under John Hatch and Sigmund Abeles and at Fortman Studios in Florence, Italy. His landscape work in watercolor, oil, and egg tempera includes scenes of rural New Hampshire and coastal Maine, where he has painted on Monhegan Island for more than 30 years. He has also painted extensively in Ireland and Scotland. Stephen lives and keeps his studio in Meredith, New Hampshire.

Christine and Stephen opened their first gallery together in Meredith in 1977.

Also in Meredith, Christine and Stephen are showing a selection of paintings at Hermit Woods Winery to benefit the Lake Winnipesaukee Association — on going.
