GILMANTON — A talk about the state's efforts to boost tourism in the early 20th century by getting potential summer residents to buy abandoned farms will be the final program of the 2015 Gilmanton Historical Society's summer season.
The program by Christina Ashjian will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works.
Ashjian's talk will focus attention on some of the great country estates featured in the New Hampshire program between 1902 and 1913. Her talk is sponsored by the NH Humanities Council.
The program is free and open to the public. Donations to support the work of the Society are gratefully received. Refreshments and social hour begins at 7 pm. The program begins promptly at 7:30.
The society's museum, in the basement of Old Town Hall, is open at 7 p.m. before the program. The Museum is open the second and fourth Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon, September, through April.
