When do you think ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee will be this year? Take a guess by April 15 to benefit Greater Meredith Program. The one who comes closest to the date and time, as officially announced by the Lakes Region Association, will win the opportunity to design your own five-course dinner with wine — estimated value $400. The registration fee of $5 per entry will benefit Greater Meredith Program.

Ice out is determined when Lake Winnipesaukee is free of ice so that the M/S Mount Washington cruise boat can reach its ports of Center Harbor, Meredith, Weirs Beach, Wolfeboro and Alton Bay. Dates have been recorded since 1888 when the Old Mount Washington Steamboat plied the lake waters. The earliest recorded Ice Out was March 28, 1921 and the latest was May 20, 1888.

Money raised from this ice out contest will benefit Greater Meredith Program, a nonprofit community economic development organization dedicated to enhancing economic vitality, historical and cultural heritage and townwide beautification. For more information regarding the Greater Meredith Program, call 279-9015 or visit the web site at www.greatermeredith.com.

Register at Lago restaurant at the corner of Routes 3 and 25 in Meredith.
