LACONIA — Lakes Region Making Strides has set a goal of collecting pictures of 10,000 people wearing pink to show their support for all those affected by breast cancer. The photos will be displayed at the October 17 walking event at Opechee Park.
Carol Mattice and Gloria Thorington, chairpersons of the event explained, “We want everyone including schools, businesses, teams, and individuals to show their support by submitting photos of themselves wearing pink. The photos can be sent to the event at laconiamakingstrides@gmail.com or uploaded to the event’s Facebook page. We hope to collect photos of over 10,000 people to bring awareness to breast cancer and to raise money for research, education, and services of the American Cancer Society.”
In addition to the excitement of this year’s Lakes Regions Making Strides Event, the public is invited to take part in “Got Pink Day” to be held on Wednesday, October 13. This will be the day to dress in pink at work, at school, while working out, even while simply relaxing, wherever you find yourself on October 13th. The Making Strides committee will share these as part of the goal of collecting 10,000 photos.
The event committee is also looking for help from local businesses who might consider posting a message on electronic signs asking community members if they have “Got Pink?” and to “Support Making Strides.”
It’s not too late to join a team or become a corporate sponsor for the Lakes Region Making Strides event on Sunday, October 17. Find out more by visiting the www.cancer.org/stridesonline.
