GILFORD — Two special programs will be offered at the Gilford Public Library during the first week of 2016.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., a coloring and cocktails event will be held for those 21 and over, the first of a continuing series which will be held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own nonalcoholic drinks. Snacks and coloring supplies will be provided. Signup is required. Participants are encouraged to contact the Gilford Public Library at library@gilfordlibrary.org or 524-6042 to ask any questions and to register.

On Thursday, Jan. 7, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., the program will be "Walking Home on the Appalachian Trail," with Mikayla "Brightside" Clarke, who recently hiked over 1,700 miles along the trail. Ready for adventure, she flew to Georgia alone and attempted the journey solo, though with the incidental company of several hikers along the route. Living on oatmeal, Mountain House and "ramen-bombs," she went on a trip of self-discovery that she will never forget.
