DAK Financial Group is sponsoring the 1st Annual Alton Penny Sale to be held at 4 p.m. on April 30 at the Prospect Mountain High School. All proceeds will go to benefit the Veterans FIRST Family Shelter. This program is designed to support homeless veterans and their families for up to two years and is the first housing program for veteran families in the state.

You can support the Veterans FIRST Family Shelter through a donation to the Alton Penny Sale. Donations can be any goods or services of value and are tax deductible. You can drop off all your donations at DAK Financial Group, 103 Main St., Alton. Please call Dennis Kaszynski at 875-3355 for directions or for more information.

What, exactly, is a Penny Sale? It is a fantastic event for the entire family. All kinds of items (leather jackets, pictures and yes, sometimes even pedicures!) are displayed throughout the High School. Each donation is usually accompanied by a business card or an 8* x 11 display from the donator. You can buy a number of tickets for only $1.00 (or a pennies a ticket) and can drop a ticket in front of each item that you want.

For example, if you want a nice watch, you might drop 20 tickets in front of it. At the end of the day, if your ticket is drawn, you'll win the watch! Penny Sales have a number of items, so your chance of winning something is pretty good.

In 2003, the Veterans Administration gave Harbor Homes, Inc. a grant to help support the homeless veterans in the state. Since then we’ve been looking for a place to house homeless veteran families in the city of Nashua. In 2004, after a long search, the group decided to build its own facility to provide the best services to veterans and their families. This facility will be built on Spring St. in Nashua and will cost $3 million — which explains the need for the public's help to make this happen!

The Alton Penny Sale needs donations of goods and services, and volunteers to help run the event. Call DAK Financial Group at 875-3355 and ask to speak with Dennis Kaszynski about how you can make a difference.

Please help the veterans that courageously defended our country through your support!
