ASHLAND — Musicians Marek Bennett and Woody Pringle will present "Rally 'Round The Flag: the American Civil War Through Folksong", an overview of the Civil War through popular music, including camp songs, parlor music, hymns, battlefield rallying cries, and fiddle tunes, in Ashland on July 10 at 7 p.m. in a free program at the Ashland Railroad Station Museum at 69 Depot Street (Route 132) in Ashland village.
They will perform on numerous instruments and explore lyrics, documents and visual images from the period. The audience can participate and sing along, while also learning about the connections between song, art and politics in this critical period of American history. The program is mostly funded by the N.H. Humanities Council and is sponsored by the Ashland Historical Society, which will also serve refreshments.
