The POW/MIA Vigil and Freedom Ride that has become an annual part of the Motorcycle Week experience will take place this year on Thursday, June 16. Bikers are asked to gather in the old K-Mart Plaza parking lot on Lakeshore Rd in Gilford between 5 and 6 p.m. Bikes will leave the lot at 6:30 p.m. for the ride to Hesky Park in Meredith for a 7 p.m. vigil.
Special guests at this year's event will be the parents of Sgt. Keith Maupin of Iowa. Their son is being held captive in Iraq at this time. Organizer Bob Jones asked bikers to "be there and show we care". "The vigil and Freedom Ride are tools to give the families the opportunity to help in the awareness of how lives are affected and how important support actually is. Please be there to greet this family and show how much we are," Jones added.
