International volunteer, and town resident, Anne Walsten will join Belmont Senior Center patrons for a formal dinner to be served at noon on Wednesday, July 25.
A retired federal special agent, Walsten travels to third-world countries helping women and children suffering from sexual abuse, malnutrition and lack of education. She has worked with Mother Teresa’s sisters in Calcutta, India and in South Africa, rebuilt an orphanage providing new school uniforms and a roof for the building.
Walsten belongs to the Maryknoll missionary group, and is hoping to raise $50,000 to fund “Adventure Unlimited”, a three-year educational program that will teach 100,000 children in Kenya: HIV/Pregnancy Prevention & Drug Awareness. She will be traveling back to Africa in August.
Private donations will be accepted. You can make checks payable to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. Donations are tax deductible.
Walston is scheduled to begin speaking at 12:30 p.m.
A $2.00 donation is requested for dinner. The menu includes sliced turkey breast with gravy, sweet potato, garden blend vegetable, cranberry sauce, warm rolls and apple crisp. Please RSVP by Wednesday July 18. Reservations are required
