LACONIA — When Altrusa International of Laconia learned that the Belknap County Jail needed books, they jumped at the opportunity to help. Altrusa's primary focus is promoting lteracy.
Three dozen children's books, some which included activities, were given to the Dads that are incarcerated. The men will record themselves reading the book, then the book and recording will go home with the children so they will hear Dad reading them to sleep. It's a wonderful way for the fathers and children to bond and remain close. Altrusa has participated in this worthwhile program in the past and hopes to continue in the future.
Over one dozen books were also given to the incarcerated females, who wanted to begin a book club. The women will read the books then meet to discuss them. Altrusa hopes to also continue this program with more books for the future.
Altrusa International of Laconia is a group of volunteers with a variety of strengths who work to improve their communities.
