Laconia Adult Education will be offering an SAT (College Board) Preparation Class beginning on Wednesday, October 1, and running for seven weeks. The SAT Preparation Classes are scheduled to end on Wednesday, November 5, in time for the SAT Exam that is scheduled to be given on November 8.
The SAT Preparation Classes are designed to help students score better on the mathematics, reading comprehension and written essay sections of the SAT Exam. The SAT Exam will test subject areas that students have learned through four years of high school. Emphasis will be placed on three segments: reading, writing and arithmetic. The changes to the new SAT Exam will enable some students to do better and some to do worse on the exam.
The writing section will be divided between multiple choice questions on grammar and style and an essay students must write on an assigned topic. In the past, the SAT Exam had been strictly multiple choice. The exam now is becoming a test of critical reading, comprehensive writing and higher mathematics in addition to a test of learned reason skills. Students will improve problem solving skills involving basic math, Algebra, Algebra II and Geometry. Emphasis will also be placed on helping the student score better on the written essay portion of the exam. The SAT Preparation classes will also better prepare the students for the different types of questions asked, when to guess at a question, and how to pace oneself so as to not run out of time.
