Current college sophomores and juniors who feel they have an outstanding leadership ability can apply for one of four $5,000 scholarships through the College Equals Opportunity (CEO) campaign.
CEO is a statewide public awareness campaign that highlights the college experiences of successful business leaders of New Hampshire companies. CEO is sponsored by the NHHEAF Network Organizations, the State's leading provider of higher education funding and the source for information about college planning and funding.
In addition to sharing their experiences, the CEO mentors have pledged funds to support the CEO Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is open to New Hampshire residents entering their junior or senior year of college at an in or out-of-state school. To be considered, students must demonstrate leadership qualities and financial need. Applicants will also be required to submit a 250 to 300-word essay on the topic, "Does College Equal Opportunity?" The application deadline is March 15, 2006. Interviews for finalists will be held in April and the scholarship recipients will be notified in May.
Participating CEO members describe the college experience as fundamental to their personal and professional growth. Through a series of interviews, available on the program's Web site www.nhceo.biz, CEO participants reveal the challenges they faced while pursuing their educational goals and the opportunities that college presented for them.
Currently participating are the following chief executive officers: Scott Bacon, TD Banknorth; Alyson Pitman Giles, Catholic Medical Center; Sebastian Grasso, Windham Group; Jeb & Luke Gutelius, Maax Inc.; Linda Normandin, Laconia Savings Bank; Thomas Raffio, Northeast Delta Dental; Charles Rolecek, C.R. Sparks & Premier Catering; Jonathan Sheff, Resource Management Consultants and Edward Sheehan, Windham Professionals.
