WOLFEBORO — The Poets in the Attic invite visitors to join their next reading on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Country Bookseller.
The Poets in the Attic do fourth-Thursday readings each month.
“We’re always looking for walk-ins,” said host Gordon Lang. “It’s how almost everyone joined the group. We were all first-timers once.”
Lang and his fellow poets would love to see some new poetry fans insinuate themselves into their circle when they gather on the 28th.
There are no featured performers at Poets in the Attic readings, which gives each poet and musician more opportunities to read or play. Typically, Wolfeboro Community Television records the first hour for broadcast later on.
“It probably looks scary when you walk by and see a video camera filming people read,” Lang said, “but I can’t think of a more welcoming, appreciative group than these poets. They really listen, and they always find some worthwhile nugget in whatever people read.”
Some PITA members have been with the group for 14 years. Others are relative newcomers, but they quickly become part of the family.
“When we’re all sharing things we feel deep in our hearts, using words we put together by hand, it doesn’t take long to feel like one of the gang,” Lang said. “People who write poetry invest a great deal of themselves in their work. We all get that.”
There is free off-street parking next to the store, on Mill Street.
