The Tri-Town Democrats of Barnstead, Gilmanton, and Alton will host a virtual public education session on Monday, Jan. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom, examining the impact of New Hampshire’s school voucher program on public education and property taxes.

The event will feature Lead Organizer with Rights & Democracy New Hampshire Brandon Lemay who will lead a participatory discussion titled “Public Dollars, Private Schools: Higher Taxes for the Working Class.” The session will explore how public tax dollars are increasingly directed to private schools while local property taxes continue to rise, placing a disproportionate burden on working- and middle-class residents.

Lemay, who was born and raised in Manchester in a multi-generational union family, has extensive experience organizing around tenant rights, climate and utility justice, and popular education. The presentation is designed to encourage dialogue and community participation, with ample opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share concerns.

Organizers say the event is intended to help residents better understand how current education funding policies affect local schools, municipal budgets, and taxpayers — particularly in rural communities.

To receive the Zoom link, attendees are asked to RSVP by emailing tritowndems@gmail.com.
