BRISTOL — The Tapply Thompson Community Center is pleased to announce the purchase of the Kathleen’s Cottage property (formerly Parkhurst Hardware Store) in Bristol, marking an exciting step forward in expanding recreational and programming opportunities for communities the TTCC serves.

The acquisition reflects TTCC’s long-term vision to develop a dedicated sports and community programming space that will serve residents of all ages. The organization hopes the site will become a hub for athletic activities, youth, teen and adult programs, and community gatherings — meeting a growing regional need for accessible indoor space.

“This purchase represents an important investment in the future of our community,” said Les Dion, director of the Tapply Thompson Community Center. “Our goal is to create a welcoming, multi-use space that supports healthy activity, connection, and lifelong learning for people throughout TTCC communities.”

While formal design and fundraising efforts are still in the early stages, TTCC plans to engage community members, local organizations, and partners as ideas for the site take shape. The center emphasizes that this is a long-term project, with careful planning to ensure the space reflects community needs and values.

“We see this as more than a building,” Rick Alpers, chair of the TTCC board of directors added. “It’s about strengthening community ties and expanding opportunities for sports, enrichment, and inclusive programming.”

Additional details regarding timelines, community input sessions, and development plans will be shared as they become available.
