HOLDERNESS — The Squam Lakes Association will be holding a volunteer training session for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Weed Watchers program on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Weed Watchers program, started by NHDES, enables anyone to help protect NH lakes against the spread of invasive species by becoming an extra pair of eyes on the lake to spot and report potential invasions.
After this training session, volunteers will be able to look for invasive species on their own, and know how to report sightings on Squam as an official weed watcher. The SLA will provide kayaks for volunteer use, as well as the necessary equipment for surveying. Participants are also welcome to bring their own kayaks or canoes, as well as any questions about aquatic invasives or about the Weed Watchers program.
