MEREDITH — The Meredith Conservation Commission will host a spring bird walk at the Page Pond Town Forest. The walk will be led by Dan Mullarkey and Kelly Hansen, local ornithologist and expert birdwatcher.
May is the peak of spring migration in the Lakes Region, so there will be an abundance of birds recently arrived from the neotropics, avian travelers stopping by on their way to the Canadian boreal forests, as well as our favorite year-round residents. The diverse habitats at Page Pond include wetlands, ponds, and forests, and will yield a variety of birds to enjoy and learn from.
The walk is on Saturday, May 9, at 7:30 a.m. and is expected to take about an hour and a half.
Registration is required and is limited to 15 participants. To register, or for more information, email the Meredith Conservation Commission at conservation@meredithnh.gov.
Participants should wear footwear appropriate for rough and wet trails, and may want to bring binoculars, bug spray, water, and perhaps a snack. The walk will depart from the trailhead on Quarry Road promptly at 7:30 a.m. The trailhead is located one-half mile down Quarry Road from NH Route 25, just past Moulton Farm.
