LACONIA — With only two shows remaining in the 2024 season, Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative, the resident theatre company of the Colonial Theatre in Laconia, recently announced its plans for the 2025 season.

Once again Powerhouse will have a Colonial Series, Spark Series, Playwriting workshop and Just Duet Fundraiser. New this year will be a two show BNH Stage series in Concord.

The Colonial Series will consist of John Cariani’s “un”romantic comedy “LOVE/SICK” in February for Valentine’s Day weekend. Disney’s musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” fills the May slot. Powerhouse plans to celebrate the holidays twice in 2025 by producing “Elf the Musical,” based on the holiday classic film in the August slot where they plan to raise money to support the Lakes Region Children’s Auction’s Christmas in July events. October will bring the dramatic classic “The Diary of Anne Frank.” The year will finish up with the thrilling “A Christmas Carol: The Musical Ghost Story,” a new Laconia tradition.

The 2025 Spark Series will once again take place all over Laconia! In conjunction with “LOVE/SICK,” John Cariani will be in town to see a staged reading of his new play “Darker the Night, Brighter the Stars,” a collaboration with PSU’s theatre department. The audience will have a chance to talk to Cariani and give feedback in advance of its professional premiere this spring.

This will be followed up by a staged reading of “Tuesdays with Morrie” at the Taylor Community and Laconia Public Library.

The next two events take place at Prescott Farm with the annual Play Festival in May and “Journey through Neverland” in September — an interactive theater event exploring the Prescott grounds. The Spark Series wraps up in November with the Power Chords Holiday Concert.

New this year, Powerhouse will produce two concerts at the BNH Stage in Concord. March will be “Best of Broadway: 80’s edition” and September will be “Best of Broadway: 60’s edition.” These concerts will look at the Tony musical nominees and winners of each decade filled with hit songs and musical theater facts and trivia.
