LACONIA — The Opechee Garden Club recently honored Judy Robertson with its annual Orchid Award for her outstanding contributions to the club. The award was presented to her at the club's annual meeting by last year's recipient, Barbara Sargent.
The club also elected a slate of new officers at its recent annual meeting, including Phyllis Corrigan and Helen Murphy, co-presidents; Hollis Thompson, vice president; Linda Belcher, recording secretary; Donna Daniels-Abjornson, correspondence secretary; Betsy Castro, membership chair; Suzanne Perley, treasurer; and Audris Clark, past president. Sandy Hickok, Hollis Thompson, and Maureen Bastille serve as Directors. Serving on standing committees are Ginnie West, Brenda O’Brien, Suanne Perley, Susan Primeau, Joan Stephenson,Jean Therrien, and Donna Daniels-Abjornson.
Recipients of the club's annual scholarships were also announced. The scholarships are awarded to students studying botany, forestry, conservation, landscaping or other related fields. The 2018 the recipients were Brent Minery, Desmond Kiran, Jade Marden, and Courtney Walker.
Other club members wererecognized for planting and maintaining five community gardens at the Rowe House in Gilford, the Belknap County Courthouse, Laconia Post Office, Laconia Public Library and the WOW Trail Elm Street trailhead.
