MEREDITH — The Lake Winnipesaukee Alliance recently announced the election of Mark Ishkanian as the new chairman of its board of directors and the addition of Lynn Photiades as a new board member.
Ishkanian succeeds Peter Glick, who successfully led the organization for five years. A resident of Moultonborough, Ishkanian brings a wealth of experience as a retired public relations and communications executive. Over a 36-year career, he worked with Maine’s largest environmental group, its biggest electric utility, and various healthcare organizations. Ishkanian has also served on numerous non-profit boards in Maine and was honored with the Bernays Award for outstanding achievement in public relations in 1998.
Photiades, also a Moultonborough resident, brings extensive experience in non-profit volunteering to her new role. Photiades has dedicated her time to various causes, starting with the Nashua Catholic schools her daughters attended, and later Trinity High School. She volunteered for CASA of NH for nine years, contributing to events, fundraising, and serving on its board. Additionally, she supported the American Heart Association’s annual luncheon fundraiser and spent 27 years working with her church’s senior high youth group. Photiades is now eager to use her skills and experience to help protect the health of Lake Winnipesaukee.
“For 49 years, LWA has led the effort to protect Lake Winnipesaukee against threats to its water quality and our science-based work has never been more important,” said Ishkanian. “The cyanobacteria blooms of the past few summers should serve as a wakeup call that much more needs to be done to protect the clear, clean waters of our lake for this and future generations.”
The board provides strategic direction and oversight to the organization in its mission to protect the water quality and natural resources of the Lake Winnipesaukee watershed. The 2025 Board of Directors includes: Chair Mark Ishkanian, Vice-Chair Peter Glick, Treasurer Ann Quandt, Secretary Larry Greeley, and directors Ron Buell and Lynn Photiades.
