LACONIA — Laconia Youth Alliance will host a free St. Patrick’s Day event at Merrill Fay Ice Arena.

The event, which is open to all ages, will include skating, music and a neon photo booth from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.

Studies show “St. Patrick’s Day is the most popular drinking day for beer drinking and the third most popular for drinking days overall. Thirty-six percent of men report binge drinking on St. Patrick’s Day and 153% more sales of spirits on St. Patrick’s Day compared to a regular day.”

The Youth Coalition’s goal is to offer a family-friendly alternative to challenge this norm and bring awareness to the increased alcohol consumption on St. Patrick’s Day.

The event is sponsored by Laconia Police Relief Association and WellSense Health Plan.

Lakes Region Mental Health, Navigating Recovery of the Lakes Region, Lakes Region Community Services, and Kathy Ireland Recovery will also be joining to educate those who are interested and hand out some important resources to the community.

Admission, stake rentals, face paint, glowsticks, pictures and pizza are free.
