LACONIA — The Laconia High School Athletic Department recently announced the induction of four alumni into the Laconia High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by the formal induction at 6 p.m. inside the Huot Technical Center’s Meredith Village Savings Bank Dining Room on the Laconia High School campus.

This year’s inductees include:

Don Morris, Class of 1964 — A standout in football and baseball, Morris was a four-year varsity football player under Coach Ken Parody, earning All-State honors and setting a state record with 21 touchdowns. He was named the team’s Most Outstanding Player and also excelled as a three-year varsity baseball player.

Lee Sturtevant, Class of 1972 — A dominant pitcher and football player, Sturtevant compiled a 12–1 record his senior season, throwing six shutouts (including five consecutive) and two no-hitters. He recorded 46 straight scoreless innings and posted an astonishing 0.69 ERA while leading the Sachems to the 1972 Class L State Championship. Sturtevant went on to be drafted by the Minnesota Twins.

Jim Concannon, Class of 1990 — A three-sport captain and All-State athlete, Concannon starred as quarterback and safety in football, represented New Hampshire in the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, and was a three-year varsity basketball letterman. On the diamond, he captained the 1990 State Champion baseball team, hitting .529 with 29 stolen bases. Concannon continued his athletic career in football at the University of New Hampshire.

Paul Durfee, Class of 2004 — A record-setting runner in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track, Durfee still holds multiple Laconia High School records, including the 800m, 1600m, and relay events (4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m), as well as the indoor 1500m. He went on to compete collegiately for the University of Connecticut.

The Laconia High School Athletic Hall of Fame was originally founded in 1983, with early inductions continuing through 1985. The tradition resumed in 1989 and, after a 25-year hiatus, was revived in 2014. Since then, dozens of athletes, coaches, and teams have been honored for their contributions to Sachem athletics.

“The Hall of Fame’s mission is to honor those who helped shape our athletic tradition while encouraging the community to take part in recognizing excellence,” said Craig Kozens, Laconia High School Athletic Director. “This year’s inductees exemplify the best of Sachem pride — talent, leadership, and achievement.”
