LACONIA — Every September on the first Wednesday after Labor Day the Laconia Friendship Club starts a new year. Members hold weekly activities up to Christmas. They pause for January and February to avoid the bad weather and visit warmer climates before picking up again in March with regular meetings through June.

In the summer months they get together without meetings. This year, that included picnics in the park, a visit to the Lakes Region Casino, and breakfast at Ames Farm.

For 2025-26, members are planning a railway ride in North Conway, a visit from Rebecca Rule the writer and humorist, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas party and meeting Riggs — Belmont Fire Department comfort dog.

The club focuses on providing social opportunities for seniors.

Meetings are usually held at Gilford Community Church, Fellowship Hall, 1:30-3 p.m.
