BRISTOL ― The Mayhew Program, a nonprofit that mentors at-risk New Hampshire boys to develop ideals of respect, responsibility, and community, is grateful for its community partners. This past weekend, the Junior Service League of Concord organized a Career Day for the high school aged boys in the program.

A variety of professionals that work in the public safety realm, the education field and individuals that are self-employed spoke to the boys about their career paths, certifications, and lessons learned along the way.

After the panel discussion the group facilitated four breakout sessions consisting of how to write a resume, interview skills and etiquette, how to fill out the FAFSA form and apply for scholarships, and the power of volunteering, interning and the importance of having an apprenticeship.

The boys that attended said the event gave them a lot to think about; they learned how to build a resume and the power of experiential opportunities.

Since 1969, the Mayhew Program has worked with over 2,500 young men from across the state of New Hampshire helping them to find their best. The Mayhew Program is the only program in the state of New Hampshire that provides a combined mentoring program and summer camp experience completely tuition free for the boys that they serve. Mayhew helps to provide structure, skills, and encouragement as the boys define success in their own lives.

All Mayhew participants benefit from regular mentoring visits in their home communities from Mayhew's team of professional outreach staff in one-on-one and small group settings throughout the year. The focus is on helping the boys apply the program ideals of respect, responsibility, community, and challenge to their lives at home, school and beyond.
