For just over a year, School Resource Officer Rob Nedeau has been fully dedicated to the Inter-Lakes School District. Nedeau has been a law enforcement instructor for over 20 years, and recently became certified to teach Law Enforcement Against Drugs, an elementary curriculum to help students make responsible decisions and healthy choices.

Introducing the LEAD program to grade six, Nedeau will teach it weekly for 10 weeks. The goal of the program is to give students an overall education about challenges they may face and to give them tools to make the best possible choices.

Topics include setting attainable goals, managing emotions, effective communication, relationship building, the effect of alcohol/nicotine/THC/marijuana on the brain and body, safe use of prescriptions and more. The course utilizes a variety of teaching methods from games and scripts to role-playing and group work.

Another benefit of the program has been for Nedeau to get to know the students better and for the students to connect with their SRO in a new way.

“I want to be a positive role model and make connections with the kids. My goal is to help students view police officers in a good light, showing that we are normal people they can talk to and have a safe place to go,” said Nedeau.
