FRANKLIN — Franklin Opera House welcomes Durham County Poets on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. This lively, soulful group was born out of the vibrant music scene of Ormstown, Quebec, Canada, once called County Durham.
These seasoned musicians, all of whom are also songwriters, manage to work together individually and collaboratively in composing their music. Delving into a variety of styles and genres, their musical influences include a broad range of artists from The Band to Dire Straits, and from James Taylor to Muddy Waters. They have managed to weave it all together to create their own musical style.
They stand out for their original blend of blues, gospel, and folk. With four acclaimed albums under their belt, including their latest effort, "Hand Me Down Blues" in September 2019, produced by Bill Garret, they have made it to several "Best-of" lists and charted on satellite and community blues radio stations. They have released four Indie albums in 10 years with their latest-almost-all-blues effort receiving a JUNO nomination, followed by two Maple Blues nominations and a 2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination for lead vocalist, Kevin Harvey. In 2020 they took home the Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year.
