Dividing perennial hands-on workshop at Minot-Sleeper Library in Bristol

BRISTOL — All are welcome to attend this informative workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1 p.m., at the butterfly garden behind the Minot-Sleeper Library, led by Ron Trexler, a Master Gardener with the UNH Extension Program. Come learn how to increase garden plants this fall. This event is free and open to all.

This is an outdoor workshop where several varieties of perennial plants are to be divided. Attendees will learn why dividing perennials is important, how often different plants should be divided, which plants should never be divided, and the critical do’s and don’ts of dividing plants to ensure successful transplanting.

Trexler has been a UNH Extension Master Gardener since 2016 and has achieved the level of Advanced Master Gardener.  He is extensively involved in the training and mentoring of new Master Gardeners, trains Master Gardeners who wish to participate in the Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau, and regularly presents to libraries, garden clubs, and community organizations.  In addition, Trexler serves on the executive board of the New Hampshire Federation of Garden Clubs as assistant treasurer, is on the board of the New Hampshire Master Gardener’s Alumni Association as membership chair, and is the past president of the Hooksett Garden Club. He especially enjoys growing vegetables in raised beds that benefit from his home composting system. His favorite flowers are crocosmia and hibiscus, of which he has several varieties. 

The club’s next event will be Oct: 20: “Native Gardening” with Emma Erler, horticulturalist from Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. Remaining workdays in the garden: Sept. 8, Oct. 6, and Oct 27.
