MOULTONBOROUGH — Cub Scout Pack 369 is collecting non-perishable food for local families in need through Scouting for Food, an annual Good Turn organized by Scouting America councils nationwide. This year's collection runs through Saturday, Oct. 31.
Rather than door-to-door collection, the pack has partnered with E.M. Heath, which is stocking extra full cases of non-perishable items, such as canned beans and vegetables, so shoppers can purchase and donate them on the spot. Donations can be dropped at the pack's Good Turn display in the store. The Moultonborough Public Library is also serving as a drop-off location for the entire week.
The drive wraps up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, with "Stuff a Cruiser" at E.M. Heath, where Scouts will team up with the Moultonborough Police Department to fill a police cruiser with donated food.
"We're proud to support the Scouts of Pack 369," said Moultonborough Police Sgt. Elijah Balser. "These kids are out there helping neighbors who may be having a hard time right now, and it's a pleasure to have them in our town. On Halloween, we'll find out how much food actually fits in a cruiser."
"Scouting is about doing a good turn for others, and this is one our Scouts can see and feel," said Cubmaster Justin Rider. "Every can that goes into that cruiser stays right here in our community."
All donations will benefit the Lakes Region Food Pantry.
Pack 369 serves boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade from Moultonborough, Sandwich, and Tamworth. Families interested in joining can visit pack369.com or email Cubmaster_J@pack369.com.
