WOLFEBORO — Burnt Timber Brewing and Tavern will play host to two other local restaurants — Garwoods and Katie’s Kitchen — for a ramen challenge on Sunday, Feb. 1. Each restaurant will be cooking their secret, cherished ramen recipes and patrons can expect to receive a flight of all three to taste side by side — one ramen from each restaurant — and ultimately, casting their vote for their favorite.
“Both of these restaurants are special to me because they’re owned and operated by my good friends so I couldn’t think of a better way to highlight the camaraderie and break up the wintertime blues by inviting them in to cook together,” said Burnt Timber’s Eddie Michno. “Garwoods has a good chance and it’ll be fun to have Oli back in our kitchen as he’s now at Garwoods. I hope the ramen from Katie’s Kitchen features a cool take on an egg… They also don’t know that I might have a trick up my sleeve and I’m just bluffing right now.”
Both competing restaurants have seen change recently. Katie’s Kitchen is under new ownership by Jonathan Maynard and Sarah Walsh, but is still providing the “good mood food” people have come to know and love.
Garwoods has seen a complete changing of the guard — from ownership on down to the recipes. Josh Cleland is now running Garwoods, and has brought Chef Alex Clyatt up from Atlanta to spice things up in the kitchen. After closing for the season last winter, Garwoods has opened its doors up to year round and you’re currently more likely to see ice fishing and snowmobiles than boats this time of year.
“The view from inside Garwoods is still incredible — and if you ask some of the regulars, the food and drinks are pretty great, too” said Clyatt of the change in seasons.
“There might end up being too many cooks in the kitchen but we’re going to have fun and hope to see people also having a good time” said Jonathan Maynard of Katie’s Kitchen.
