BRISTOL — Area residents and visitors are invited to come out and “Celebrate Bristol” on Saturday, Aug. 23. The day will feature many family-friendly activities at Kelley Park with something for everyone, and while admission is free, some activities and food may require a fee.

Start the day with a pancake breakfast hosted by the local Masons from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Union Lodge Masonic Hall, 18 Pleasant St. in Bristol.

The fun continues in Kelley Park, located off North Main Street, beginning at 10 a.m. with activities running until 3 p.m. There will be food trucks, crafters, vendors, live music, games, and a climbing wall.

Bristol’s police and fire departments will be on-site with their vehicles for kids to explore. The Police Department will also be handing out bike helmets to local kids (about 50 available), and Maybel, the department’s K9, will do a live demonstration.

On the other end of Kelley Park, the Newfound Classic Car Show will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration opens at 8 a.m.

The Bristol Community Spirit Award presentation will take place at the park pavilion at 10 a.m.

Erica Golter from “Have a Cartoon You” will be available throughout the day.

New this year is the Rubber Chicken Throwing Contest, which challenges participants to see who can throw a rubber chicken the farthest.

Tapply-Thompson Community Center’s Famous Lobster & Chicken dinner goes from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the Tapply-Thompson Community Center or at Kelley Park that day. Dinner music will be provided by Solitary Man.

An Ecumenical Service will take place at Inspiration Point on Sunday, Aug. 24. Offered by the Bristol United Church of Christ, individuals and families from all backgrounds are welcome. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. and parking will be at the Slim Baker Lodge.
