GILFORD — In January of 2023, 15-year-old Sydnie Quimby's life was cut way to short when she was involved in a skiing accident at Gunstock.

Sydnie was also a talented equestrian, who along with her horse Mercy, excelled at the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting where the two worked together to earn championship titles in events.

Sydnie was also quick to jump off her horse and run beside a young child so they could win a ribbon. She was humble, always thinking of others.

In honor of Syd's memory, a nonprofit has formed called "Be A Syd Project." Its mission is to create a safe space for horses and humans to experience kindness, hope and healing. The goal is to provide opportunities for those in the community to experience the magic of equines.

The third annual Farm Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 26 Young Road in Gilford. The schedule includes equine demonstrations at 11 a.m. for Western Riding, and noon for Barrels and Poles games.

From 1-4 p.m. there will be Cowboy Mounted Shooting. The mounted shooting demonstration is hosted by the Baystate Bandits.
