CENTER SANDWICH — Positive and negative space describe the reactions of Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery’s artists when asked to isolate in place during the last year. On the positive side some of the artists were happy to have extra time in their studios. These artists produced volumes of work. On the negative side other artists were unable to find inspiration to pick up their brushes or pencils. Visit the Gallery for the opening reception on Aug. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Meet the artists and learn about their experiences creating during the Pandemic. The gallery is located at 69 Maple Street.

Franz Nicolay is an artist who created volumes of work. A photographer and now sculptor, Nicolay went to the woods for inspiration. “The forest has a voice often expressed in trees and stone. In these wood sculptures, the process of uncovering this voice is one of reduction: selecting limbs, length, and orientation; then stripping bark, scraping, sanding, and oiling”. Both visual and tactile, the repurposed branches have become graceful objects that totally engage the viewer.

Sallie Wolf was less inspired to work during the pandemic. It took her a while to get back to her studio but her creative inspiration never lagged. “View from My Kitchen Window” is one of the first works created after the vaccine arrived.

Brook Hedge is a photographer and a newcomer to the Lakes Region and to Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery. During stay at home time Hedges found her subjects at home. In her photograph “In the Beginning” an egg takes on a new and magical life through Hedge’s lens.

Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday 10-5 and Sunday noon-5. Open Mondays by appointment or if the barn door is open, come on in. Visit www.patricialaddcaregagallery.com for more information or call 603-284-7728.
